Bodensee-Airport Friedrichshafen

IONITY’s first charging station at an airport

IONITY has officially inaugurated its first High-power charging station for electric cars at Bodensee-Airport Friedrichshafen in Southern Germany. The new charging station represents a significant stride in expanding the airport's capabilities, transforming it into a key transportation hub that seamlessly integrates electric mobility into the region's transportation landscape.

The IONITY Friedrichshafen station, situated on the B31 near the A8 and A98 motorways, offers unrestricted 24/7 access and will serve both travelers and residents in the Lake Constance region, known for its vibrant holiday destinations. The station features four charging points with a capacity of 350 kW and two charging points with up to 200 kW.

"We are delighted to be expanding our network with this special location – it’s IONITY's first at a German airport. Travel in general, and sustainable travel in particular, is now easier than ever with so many different mobility options available at a hub like this.” says Christoph Strecker, country manager in Germany, Austria and Switzerland at IONITY.

The Lake Constance region is one of the strongest vacation regions in Germany – the city of Friedrichshafen alone counts more than 300,000 visitors per year. “IONITY is contributing at this airport by providing green energy for travelling with an emission-free electric car," continues Christoph.

Mobility hub for Airplane, Bus, Train and E-Mobility

The new charging station represents a significant leap forward in expanding the airport, solidifying its position as a key transportation hub in the region. The convenience of traveling to the airport using an electric car adds to the existing transportation choices, including public transport, FlixBus coaches, trains, and even catamaran docking at Friedrichshafen Harbor. The airport's commitment to providing a range of transportation options underscores its role as a central hub, catering to the diverse needs of travelers.

Claus-Dieter Wehr, managing director of the airport, expressed his enthusiasm regarding this next step towards the future: "These charging points are not only an important expansion of our service offering for passengers, but also significantly improve the charging options for all EV users in the region. As the airport is very conveniently located, we are increasingly developing this location into a mobility hub in the Lake Constance region".
